The SAP PartnerEdge program has received industry top honors with the distinguished 2008 Gold 5-Star Overall rating from CMP Channel, a leading channel industry publishing firm. The two-year-old program gained “overall winner” status in the “VARBusiness 5-Star” program, which evaluates and acknowledges the commitment and strength of vendor partner programs. CMP Channel publishes leading channel publications around the world including VARBusiness magazine in the U.S., as well as CRN in North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. In a short interview, Ira Simon, vice president, Global SME Channel Marketing, talks about what this recognition means for SAP. SAP News: Why is the Gold 5-Star rating from CMP Channel’s VARBusiness magazine a significant win for SAP PartnerEdge? Ira: From a list of more than 250 vendors, our program was one of just 10 awarded the “overall winner” rating. CMP Channel is a highly respected channel media outlet with international reach, so to receive such recognition speaks volumes for our program – particularly for key elements such as our innovative tiered "Value Points" framework that provides equal opportunity for partners of various types and sizes, comprehensive benefits, and partner communications resources including the annual program Welcome Kit. SAP News: What role do channel partners play in SAP’s strategy to expand into the SME market? Ira: SAP’s SME solutions are brought to market through a “hybrid model” that includes channel partners. In fact, today 85% of our SME customers come from the channel. Small and midsize businesses often seek out local partners for their specialization and expertise, whether it’s in a vertical, micro-vertical, or horizontal market. Partners will continue to be a cornerstone of our SME strategy long-term, and are key to accelerating our business in this expanding market. SAP News: What can channel partners expect when they become part of the SAP PartnerEdge program? Ira: Simple: Partner with SAP and experience a personal relationship that provides an unmatched level of service, support, and profitability. Our partners don’t have to compromise margins as they’re forced to do with other, over-distributed solutions.
